Some recent days of fog led to rime-- the kind of frost formed by fog freezing, vs hoar frost which is moisture freezing out of the air as temperatures drop. The frost quickly falls from trees if temperatures rise near/above freezing, and/or when sun falls directly on frosted surfaces. A few days of cloud and fog at times, with snow in the mix, meant the frost conditions lasted a while (still hanging on along the north edge of woods). These are some of my favourite views of the year- trees become white, distances soft edged, as though we inhabit an entirely new landscape! Views from the acreage, farm, across the neighbours', and from the road.
Frost spirits visit from across the veilsliding in unseen, in dark or foggy hoursdancing on branches, and over dried flowers.Listen close and you may hear them, faintlyfrolic, whisper and giggle in the breezeas they scatter false gems over grass and trees. The mist obscures the distance and dimsthe boundary between our world and theirs-if you wander too far, enthralled, take careyou may slip, unknowing into that realmof jewel encrusted trees and blurred forms,to see the lands of mortal folk nevermore.
Out to cut wood now....
I’d love to hear from you- You can find me on
