Living in a place with a relatively short growing
season ( I grow a lot of alpines and native plants, outdoors, so the growing
season is much longer than the frost-free season), having plants in the house
is something I wouldn’t want to be without! We are just past the autumn
equinox, but weeks into meteorological fall: still some things flowering
outdoors, and lots of fantastic colour. Yesterday was mostly cloudy (some
images from a brief supply trip to town):

Canola Field, swathed and waiting for dry enough weather for combining! |
Still dry, though, so I was able to get out and cut
more firewood! One photo from the area where I was foraging firewood:

The next few days are forecast to be wet,
seasonally chilly, with a good chance of significant snow (not unusual here,
but this could be an unusual amount...), and today started dark and wet. So, I’m
happy for the sunny breaks we’ve had this afternoon, and while I’m not going
outside now, I can enjoy the sun shining in on the indoor plants! Here are a
few cacti and friends in the window taking advantage of what sun the scuttering
clouds allow:

Mammillaria nana subspecies nana (another with a bunch of synonyms); getting ready for another round of flowers |

EDIT: Gymnocalycium vatteri, special long spine form-- that's the name I got it with years ago, anyway!... |
